On 26 January 2015 the Samoa Times published an article entitled “Integrity of the Supreme Court of Samoa Questioned in the Streets of Auckland”. That article contained comments suggesting that the Attorney General of Samoa, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, acted improperly in relation to a land transaction at Tuloto.

This relied on an affidavit of Filisita Heather of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment who said that Mr Leung Wai emailed Sala seeking for prompt action of the request from the Lawyer acting for the lender. Samoa Times have now been provided with a subsequent affidavit of Filisita Heather who says that, in relation to the land transaction at Tuloto, Mr Leung Wai emailed Ms Stowers-Fiu of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment asking if the Ministry could assist with the matter by notifying the caveator in accordance with the request of the Lawyer acting for the lender.

The subsequent evidence also demonstrates that Mr Leung Wai had no subsequent involvement in the matter, declared his conflict of interest, and appointed an Assistant Attorney-General to handle any matters arising. Samoa Times regret any confusion to readers about Mr Leung Wai’s actions.
